Protest the Hero – From the Sky
Having become known as one of Canada’s most prolific metal acts, Protest the Hero have announced their fifth studio album Palimpsest will be released on June 19th. From the collection is the new single “From the Sky”.
The Whitby four-piece have always centred their music on their rapid-fire musicality and progressive arrangements. While their 2016 Pacific Myth EP was less-detailed in a sense, they have returned to the complex stylings of their earlier work on “From the Sky”, bringing out the guns reminiscent of their 2011 album Scurrilous.
More impressively so, lead singer Rody Walker is still able to unleash his unique howl and operatic vocal style despite losing his voice back in 2018:
“During our final tour just before we were set to start recording, I blew my voice out, and it didn’t come back. I spent a long time fighting with it trying to bounce back and failing. Finally, through coaching and rehearsal, I got it back in shape. For the first time in my life singing felt like an actual job and I’m still pissed about it. I have never worked harder to put out music in my life and I am extremely proud of the product.”
The song’s rock opera styles mixed with the familiar head-banging virtuosity of the band makes “From the Sky” an exhilarating taste of what is yet to come with Palimpsest.
