Psych-Rock Group Tempesst Announce Debut LP; Share New Single “On the Run”

Hailing from Sunshine Coast, Australia comes the psych-rock five piece Tempesst. Composed of twin brothers Toma (vocals, guitar) and Andy Banjanin (drums), keyboardist Kane Reynolds, bassist Blake Misipeka, and Swiss/American guitarist Eric Weber, the group capture the ’60s and ’70s origins of the genre.

They have announced they will be releasing their debut album Must Be A Dream on September 30th, and alongside the news, have shared the album’s lead single “On the Run”.

Glossy guitar melodies, tom-filled percussion, and rich vocal harmonies give the song a full sound that playful mixes in complex arrangements while remaining easy to enjoy and sonically fulfilling. But the song’s roots are slightly more dramatic than they may seem.

About the single, Toma shared: “‘On The Run’ was written about a close friend who disappeared for a decade and returned as someone completely different, and it’s an ongoing trauma. When I connected the music to the lyrics to try and finish the song, it felt like it had a rolling rhythm, so the chorus fell into place from there. For me, this song carries a lot more emotional weight.”

Themes of substance abuse and escapism give the song a moody and darker layer, while the airy, desert-rock instrumentation masks the lyrics in a groovy light.
