Plants and Animals – House on Fire

Montreal trio Plants and Animals recently announced they’ll be releasing their fifth full-length The Jungle on October 23rd. The band mentioned that it will be their shortest, but boldest with “”eight acts in a world full of noise”.

“House on Fire” is the first look at the album which shows the band exploring denser sound palettes and electronic textures, coming across as a more “rock” centred Holy Fuck tune. It’s central hook is held together with sci-fi synthesizers and dancey, trance-like percussion, encouraging the volume to go up and up.

Samia – Fit N Full

With her debut album The Baby hitting shelves on August 28th, indie singer-songwriter Samia has dropped a handful of singles beforehand, including the new beauty-expectation inspired single “Fit N Full”. Lead by Samia’s charming vocals, the song features a catchy chorus and introspective lyrics about wishing for the perfect body.

Hollow Graves – Tequila Sunrise

Inspired the toxic balance of alcoholism and maintaining relationships, Hollow Graves have shared their new single “Tequila Sunrise”, a washy alternative rock tune with aesthetic ties to post-punk and West Coast lo-fi. The Toronto-based 5 piece are expected to release a new EP this summer as well.

The Elwins – Weight of the World

Newmarket four-piece The Elwins are set to release their new album IV on September 18th and alongside the announcement have shared their latest single “Weight of the World”. It has the band shifting gears from their colourful indie pop sound into more mature, denser indie rock, exploring the inevitability of a bad day with melancholic guitar riffs and swelling arrangements .

Erich Mrak – Girls

Toronto based songwriter Erich Mrak has dabbled in hip-hop, alt-R&B, and alt-pop, blending together a wide variety of influences to create his sound. On his new single “Girls”, he finds himself leaning into the alternative side of his range:

“The influences behind Girls lie somewhere between Post Malone, Tame Impala, and The 1975. With the guitar heavy production, processed vocals, and content derived from interpersonal relations”.

Mrak sings about a recent heartbreak while producing a groovy feel to counteract the sadness.

Haley Blais – On A Weekend

Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Haley Blais is expected to drop her debut full-length Below the Salt on August 25th. Ahead of the release, Blais has shared her FOMO-inspired lo-fi pop tune “On A Weekend”, giving listeners a taste of her dreamy, indie rock sound and her quirky sense of humour.

Little Kid – I Thought That You’d Been Raptured

Toronto-based indie rock group Little Kid capture their small town upbringings and refurbish them into well-rounded, robust rock tunes. With their new album Transfiguration Highway out Friday, the four-piece lead by Kenny Boothby have shared their new single “I Thought That You’d Been Raptured”, a comical folk song about a man who thinks his wife had been brought to heaven only to find out she was having an affair upstairs, told over top of cruising indie folk twang.

Lauren Lakis – We’ll Be Fine

Baltimore-born singer-songwriter Lauren Lakis effortlessly walks the tightrope between dreamy, slow-burning pop and crashing shoegaze on her new single “We’ll Be Fine”. Originally written about a romantic relationship, the song quickly became about hope for humanity during the pandemic, looking towards the positivity of the future.

Skegss – Under the Thunder

Hailing from Byron Bay, Australia, indie rock trio Skegss capture the lively, sun-shining of the Aussie music scene. Their new single “Under the Thunder” is just as carefree as you’d expect, capturing the hazy, coastal vibe of surf rock mixed with their fuzzy, distorted guitar riffs. “Under the Thunder” is a fun-loving reminder to take the good with the bad and to enjoy the moments in between.

STORRY – For No One

Toronto based R&B-pop artist STORRY released her compelling album CH III: The Come Up back in February, and is already moving ahead with new music. Her forthcoming INTERLUDE-19 EP will be out later this year, and STORRY has shared the passionate lead single “For No One”.

Written as an ode to Pride Month, “For No One” is about feeling free and comfortable with love and sex, cushioned by sultry R&B grooves and STORRY’s rich vocals.

Kill Lincoln – Confession Obsession

Ska is alive and well, thanks for checking in.

Since 2009, Washington, D.C. ska sextet Kill Lincoln have been doing their part to keep third-wave ska kicking and screaming. Their upcoming album Can’t Complain will be out August 7th, their first in five years, and the group have shared their lead single “Confession Obsession”. In traditional ska fashion, it’s got blaring horns, fiery dance grooves, and an unapologetic punk mentality.
