Friendship Grows Apart In JÁNA’s New Single “Buds”

Stockholm-based neo-R&B artist JÁNA dropped her debut EP Flowerworks this weekend, a collection of pop-tinged alternative R&B that was written from her home-made studio located in her parent’s basement and co-produced by Little Dragon. From the release is her new single “Buds” which explores the evolution of friendships and the growth that sometimes leads in new directions:

“‘Buds’ is a song about growth, but more specifically about growing apart from someone you love. Feeling a friction within a relationship without being able to change it. Perhaps at first the differences were what made the relationship stronger, but once the thing holding the relationship together is no longer there, those differences don’t match anymore.”

It’s emotive and bitter-sweet meaning is transformed into a lush, guitar-licked alt-R&B pop tune that lets JÁNA‘s hauntingly delicate vocals sweep overtop as she asks “Where you going?”.
