BEYRIES Shares Raphaëlle Chovin-Directed Music Video For “Over Me”

On Montreal-native Amélie Beyries’ new single “Over Me”, she explores the feeling of being powerless and vulnerable, something she was worried about at the beginning of her career. After writing songs for most of her life, she eventually allowed herself to share her music with others, opening up the gates to a flourishing career as a bilingual Canadian songwriter.

Performing as BEYRIES, she aims to be transparent and raw, building relationships with her listeners rather than replicating a sound. With “Over Me”, she allows herself to find the strength in vulnerability, first by accepting the uncontrollable bearing another person can have over you, then by finding the motivation to do something about it.

Accompanying the single is the visual narrative about a young girl finding herself in-between stages of her life and fearing the loss of a friend to change. Directed by French filmmaker Raphaëlle Chovin, the music video helps bring out the emotive power of BEYRIES’ voice and songwriting.

“It is a period full of doubts. Between two age groups, between two sexualities, between two moments of life. I decided to situate the action of the music video in the mid-80s to refine the image, free teenagers from today’s means of communication and return to more frank, spontaneous and simple relationships” explains Chovin.

Stay tuned for her upcoming sophomore album this fall. As well, BEYRIES has announced a tentative Spring 2021 Quebec tour schedule (dates below).
