Flatbush Zombies Get X-Ray’d For James Blake-Produced Single “Afterlife”

Following one of their shows in Los Angeles in 2018, the Flatbush Zombies, composed of Erick the Architect, Meechy Darko, and Zombie Juice, linked up with British producer James Blake and eventually began collaborating on new music. The new single “Afterlife” is the first release from the surprise rendezvous, combining their strengths for a hard-hitting track.

Its moody beat takes pages from Blake’s signature style of dissonant chords and airy falsetto, warping it with heavy bass and Flatbush Zombie’s interchanging flow. Helping to bring out the song’s intensity is the accompanying music video, featuring the trio and some acquaintances as x-rayed beings, bringing the song and the group into another dimension.

To accomplish the revolutionary graphics for the music video, director Arnaud Bresson had to get creative, “Today, there is no technology that x-ray films a living being without endangering it, so we worked hand in hand with a post-production company to develop a technical device that would allow us to achieve a similar effect. We used multi-camera tracking, recorded the positions and movements of our characters to extract and apply to our 3D compositions. It took four months of work to find the perfect style”.
