Toronto Punk Trio THE OBGMs Share Gritty “Fight Song”; Announce NEW LP ‘The Ends’

Toronto punk trio The OBGMs (The oOoh Baby Gimme Mores) are making a bold return with their newly announced sophomore album The Ends, out October 30th. “We are really changing the dimensions of which the game is played like the Steph Curry of this rock shit“, they’ve proclaimed.

Following their 2014 self-titled debut and tour schedule, frontman and guitarist Densil McFarlane took a six month hiatus after becoming disconnected from music and his writing. “I thought me and music was over,” he says. “My life wasn’t very good at the time, people around me were dying, and everything I was making sucked. I thought it was a sign that I needed to do something else.”

Eventually, he had a realization that he needed to change the way he approached songwriting, “I was making it to fit a certain mold, but it lacked truth. It lacked honesty”, he shares. “That’s why it wasn’t able to come out the way I wanted it to. So I changed my strategy on songwriting. I started talking about things that were more relevant to me and more relevant to my community — and just talking about how I actually feel in words that are not compromising.”

Truly punk to the core, McFarlane and his bandmates Colanthony Humphrey (drums) and Joseph Brosnan (bass) found their tenacious spirit and returned to the studio with Grammy/JUNO-award winning producer Dave Schiffman (PUP, Rage Against the Machine) to create The Ends.

Along with their previously released singles “Cash” and “Not Again”, The OBMGs have shared their latest single “Fight Song” ahead of the album. Clocking in just under two minutes, “Fight Song” is a powerful kick to the face that captures the band’s explosive and relentless musicality.

With his tenacious personality and no-holds-barred songwriting style, McFarlane explains the fuel for the fire that is “Fight Song”, “You ever sitting in your 9-5 and someone talking reckless and you really want to punch them in their head top? You ever get that passive aggressive email from that disrespectful person and you want to walk to their cubicle and tell them about their mom? I wrote this song so I wouldn’t have to hold my tongue. We want the smoke. All of it. You don’t like us, fight me, or get the hell out of the way. You can’t stop us, this is how we die.

Let it all out with the song below and mark your calendars for October 30th.
