Moonchild Sanelly Celebrates Female Desire With “Where De Dee Kat”
Following the smash hit “Bashiri“, Moonchild Sanelly, the “Queen of Gqom” is back with her sexually-charged single “Where De Dee Kat”. With her new EP Nudes coming out on September 11th, the South African dancehall artist gets down and dirty on the song all about desire.
In light of the Cardi B song “WAP” making waves for its overtly female sexuality, Moonchild Sanelly was facing her own set of backlash when asked to change the lyrics: “how many songs talk about pussy?…Unless we talk about female desire, rape culture exists”.
Clear as day, the song’s title and hook “where the dick at” flips the switch on, providing a powerful message and stance about the female desire. Her dynamic energy and confidence is certainly a conversation starter, finishing it off with her growingly-iconic Gqom sound of Afrobeats and reggaeton beats.
The music video, while seemingly simple, was quite the feat according to director Jesse Roth: “Of all the stupid shit i’ve been asked to do in my career, tying a bondage-clad singer to the back of a van and driving around with the doors open setting off smoke bombs in her face is right up there. Nearly spent the night in jail. Banging tune though.”
