Matveï – RIO

In terms of underground labels, Kitsuné is one of my favourites. The electronic imprint seems to find some of the best undiscovered talent in European-inpsired dance and house music, this time with Matveï. The young Montreal producer has shared his groovy, samba-sampled hit “RIO”, bringing together elements of French hip-hop, jungle, and house.

Julia Stone – Unreal

Best known for being one half of Australian indie folk duo Julia & Angus Stone, Julia Stone has taken off on a solo career, switching gears into ethereal synth-pop and art-pop. Her second single this year, “Unreal” is a glossy, bitter-sweet track about relationships and feeling disconnected. The accompanying music video is a stunning sci-fi-art short film co-starring Damon Herriman.

Human Barbie – The Truth Is Coming

Los Angeles singer-songwriter Christopher Leopold is releasing his debut album under the moniker Human Barbie on October 23rd. His new single “The Truth Is Coming” adds to his collection of previously released songs to build up for the short film Life of Ed. The forthcoming album Get A Life is the film’s soundtrack, as he takes on themes of isolation, relationship, anxiety, and more in thoughtful, slow-burning indie rock tunes; The Weakerthans, Death Cab for Cutie, and Cat Stevens come to mind on “The Truth Is Coming”.

Cartel Madras – WORKING

Hip-house duo Cartel Madras have shared their first bit of new music since their 2019 EP Age of the Goonda. Produced by fellow THOTNATION artist Jide, “WORKING” is an ode to ’90s house and UK garage house. It’s retro dance vibe and contemporary spirit combines hard-hitting fem-foward rap and dance-hungry hooks for a surprise club hit.

Takuya Kuroda – Fade

Renowned trumpeter Takuya Kuroda is dropping his new album Fly Moon Die Soon on September 18th. The New York City-based artist combines his jazz training with hip-hop, soul, and funk on the record, including the R&B single “Fade” featuring Corey King. Its groovy melody and Kuroda’s brassy performance steers away from clustered jazz and into the soulful side of hip-hop and R&B.

Plus, enjoy the remix by producer Kearl as a little bonus.

Lost In Society – We Want Change

NJ punk four-piece Lost In Society are releasing their new EP Love and War on October 2nd. From the 5-track collection is the politically-charged anthem “We Want Change”, showing the band’s ferocious and dynamite punk energy and hooks.

The Zolas – Wreck Beach/Totem Park

Serving up their final Z-Day contribution, Vancouver trio The Zolas finish off with “Wreck Beach/Totem Park”, named after landmarks close to the University of British Columbia. Nostalgic vibes and glowing summer sunsets help ring in the encroaching fall with the slow-burning indie rock tune and its accompanying music video.

Buddy – Glitch ft. Tinashe

L.A. rapper Buddy continues to impress with his new single “Glitch”. Since dropping a deluxe version of his debut LP in late 2019, he’s been on a steady climb up the charts, and “Glitch” is another piece of the puzzle for the 27 year old.

Fat Tony – Feeling Groovy

Not only is this a great song, but Fat Tony has given fans an interactive music video with a 360′ camera for “Feeling Groovy”. The funky track about giving into lust lets you enjoy as much as possible with the trippy video. “Feeling Groovy” is off his upcoming album Exotica out on October 23rd.

Dagny – It’s Only A Heartbreak

Norwegian indie pop artist Dagny will be dropping her debut album Strangers / Lovers on October 2nd. The rising star has teased another taste of the record with her new single “It’s Only A Heartbreak”, inspired by the famous Casablanca quote “Here’s looking at you, kid”. The glossy, synthesizer production leads the way as she sings about making the best of a broken heart, contrasting the hardship with uplifting beats and hooks.

Jeremy Zucker – supercuts

With millions of streams already on the track, pop artist Jeremy Zucker has shared the feel-good suburban-summer music video for “supercuts”. Its moody coloration mixed with the shots of empty playgrounds, football fields, and parking lots hits the nostalgia bone as fall inches closer (did I mention that already? It’s already September by the way…)

Yung Gravy – yup!

Anchorman fans will enjoy this one.

Rap-pop artist Yung Gravy has shared the spoof-music video for “yup!” as he brings out his best Ron Burgundy as “Bruce Buttercrisp”. The song’s feel-good yacht-party energy transfers over well for the comedic music video, making for one entertaining combination.

Moonchild Sanelly – Thunda Thighs

If you’ve been keeping up with my posts, you might recognize this name. South African Gqom artist Moonchild Sanelly is dropping her new Nüdes EP on Friday and has shared another banger of a track with “Thunda Thighs”. If you love Afrobeats, reggageton, and dancehall, you’re going to love Gqom.

Flex those thunda thighssss.

Peter Katz – KMOTM

Indie singer-songwriter Peter Katz has moved away from his folk beginings and into the synth-pop world. Earlier this week, he shared two new tracks, including “KMOTM” (Kiss Me On the Mouth). It’s about missing human connection (something that may be a little too relatable nowadays), and the melancholic spirit elevates the glowing synthesizers and catchy as hell chorus.

Josh Johnson – Western Ave

Chicago/L.A. jazz artist and producer Josh Johnson will be dropping his debut album Freedom Exercise on Octobe 9th. From the release is “Western Ave”, a tribute to the street found both in his hometown of Chicago and his new home of Los Angeles. The saxophonist/keyboardist combines Afrobeat, experimental jazz, hip-hop and soul into his sound, giving a bright, contemporary feel to the genre.
