Norwegian Rising Star Lokoy Shares New Single “a mistake” featuring Emilie Østebø
Osla-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Lokoy is quickly becoming one of the most exciting acts of 2020. Since shifting from his days as a bassist in the punk band Sløtface, the Norwegian artist is dropping his highly anticipated debut album Badminton on January 22nd, 2021, and has already shared a handful of dazzling indie rock-infused tracks, including “both eyes”, and now his latest preview is the glossy bedroom-rock tune “a mistake”.
Featuring the youthful vocals of 20 year old Norwegian vocalist Emilie Østebø, the new track combines the fuzz-filled effects of lo-fi bedroom pop and drum machines, but with the softened Gen-Z pop of beabadoobee and Powfu with its glowing, melancholic production.
Its heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics and emotional inspiration adds to the song’s appeal. Østebø shares, “It’s nothing too complicated; it deals with the relationship between two people, the dynamic between them”. Adding to the song’s relatability, she adds, “Often I feel like songs are a parody of yourself. The chorus of ‘a mistake’ is sort of a parody of the self-indulgent things you imagine saying to a person you’ve just had a fight with”.
The accompanying music video features both clips of Lokoy and Østebø performing together, while two dancers ebb and flow in a relationship. Enjoy the music video below:
