LOONY Finds The ‘Goofy’ In Having A Crush In New Music Video “be cool”
Scarborough native Kira Huszar, better known as LOONY, has been racking up streams and stealing the spotlight in Canadian music recently – and deservingly so; her full-bodied and luscious soul-pop vocals warrant plenty of buzz and attention. After dazzling listeners with her previous EPs including her 2018 debut Part 1, and 2020’s JOYRiDE, LOONY is gearing up to release yet another collection of tracks in the spring of 2021.
As a preview to what is yet to come, Huszar has shared her new single “be cool” and its friendship-filled music video. Starring her real life best friends, the new music video has LOONY building up the nerves to approach a love interest.
“When you have a crush, it feels cringey and agonizing and childish,” says LOONY. “You’re in a weird space of overthinking every move you make. And there’s this weird double feeling of being completely inwardly consumed by it all, but also not trusting yourself at all, so you’re looking for answers or advice from literally anyone else around you. So I kinda wanted the video to reflect all that. The whole visual just came to me as a really linear story, that reflected the lyrics I wrote quite literally, so I just got my friends together and called Kosta and we made this thing. I needed it to feel goofy and slightly ridiculous and kinda candid, because that’s just how crushing on someone feels.”
That “goofy” and “candid” aesthetic certainly comes through on the video, with bedroom manicures, pep-talks in the middle of the road and a bouquet of flowers as the main cliche.
