Lowell Works Through A Low Point On Latest Single “God Is A Fascist”
With a handful of stellar songwriting credits in her back pocket, Los Angeles/Toronto-based singer-songwriter Lowell has been since making the most of stepping in front of the microphone as a solo artist. Her indie pop sound fuses together elements of lo-fi, dream-pop, ballad, and R&B, and following the success of her single “Lemonade” (which spent a few weeks on my Starting Line-Up Top 20 singles), has emerged with another fantastic single “God Is A Fascist”.
With moody vocals over a swelling ballad, Lowell works through heartbreak, being homesick, and more on the cathartic sad song.
“This song is very near and dear to me”, Lowell shares about the single. “Written at a low point in both my career and my relationship, it’s simply about feeling like you belong together and being forced to be apart, which I think a lot of people can relate to at the moment. Some people might feel a bit offended by the title, but it really isn’t this anti-religion statement. It’s simply a symbol of the helplessness I was feeling in my life at the time- that feeling like life is laid out for you whether you like it or not. Interesting fact- most of the song actually came to me in a grocery store in Burbank, CA while I was squeezing avocados. Another interesting fact- Burbank was on fire.“
Perhaps her next song will be about how God is an avocado, but for now, while fans await a larger release announcement, Lowell is still very much worth the buzz and attention as she continues to release new music into the new year.
