Sophia Kennedy Announces Sophomore LP With New Single “Cat On My Tongue”
As a follow-up to her intimidating single “Orange Tic-Tac“, experimental pop artist Sophia Kennedy has shared her dreamy new track “Cat On My Tongue”, alongside the announcement that her second album Monsters will be out May 7th via her recent signing to City Slang records.
Speaking about the new single Kennedy shares, “The song is a movie-like bold teenage rebel story – like the world of the Shangri-Las and Lovers-Rock combined with psychedelic Hip Hop – but to me, the real star of the song is the melody. It has this bright addictive Beam and it makes me feel good. It makes me feel so good, as if I’m sliding down the rainbow with no clothes on, while waving to tiny little angel babies.”
Alternating her time living between the States and Germany most of her life, Kennedy’s obsession for German underground music slips through her rhythmic production flare, taking the low, steady pulse wherever she goes, especially with the psych-hip-hop style beat for “Cat On My Tongue”. Its glittering synthesizers matched with her rich vocals makes for a compelling brand of alternative pop, as if Beach House, Animal Collective, and Lana Del Rey merged as one.
