Indie Rock Act Orson Wilds Share Colourful New Music Video “Mothers Daughters”
Toronto-based indie rock group Orson Wilds were faced with a challenge when shooting their new music video “Mothers Daughters” due to COVID restrictions. With the law at the time limiting groups to a maximum of ten, the eight-piece had to trim down the numbers to make room for a film crew.
So they cut in half, but tried their best to make up for it by wearing different outfits during the video to seem like a larger group. Lead by co-vocalists Eric Reid and Brianna Bordihn, Orson Wilds decided to shoot the video on 35mm film to accentuate the brightness and warm colours of the set. Directed by Sean Cartwright, the video was inspired by French New Wave, 60’s fashion and Scott Pilgrim vs The World, which becomes clear through the overlaying splashes and sharp colour palette.
With a familiar Canadian indie rock sound reminiscent of the early days of Stars and Said the Whale, the new single “Mothers Daughters” is a strong and triumphant piece about making time for loved ones. The blasting guitars, subtle horn section, crushing percussion, and wonderfully balanced vocal performance from Reid and Bordihn come together, making full use of the band’s larger than usual size.
Enjoy the music video and stay tuned for their debut album out later this year:
