Nova Scotian Indie Songwriter Keeper E Finds Sanctuary In New Video For “Leaf In A River”
On her sophomore single “Leaf In A River”, indie pop singer/songwriter Adelle Elwood, performing as Keeper E, opens the floodgates for the seemingly rhetorical question of life’s purpose and the limitations of an individual. It’s a heavy topic, but her gentle and soothing bedroom lo-fi sound helps to cushion the blow as she asks “How long can you walk before you get tired? How long will you stay with someone who hurts you? How long can you tolerate the ways the world works before something changes?”.
The song’s delicate synthesizer textures and steady rhythm are playfully accentuated by subtle effects and contrasting tones, brought together by Keeper’s fragile vocals.
In her self-directed music video, Elwood creates a visual metaphor for the tough questions she’s asking, from within the walls of a nostalgic and childlike form of escape (a blanket fort), before building up the energy to wander outside and remove her security blankets.
