Freddie Gibbs Teams Up With Schoolboy Q For New Video “Gang Signs”
Los Angeles-based rappers Freddie Gibbs and Schoolboy Q teased a collaboration earlier this week with a Tweet showing their SMS conversation about the track. With New Music Friday upon us, the two have unveiled the project, sharing the jazzy, hip-hop track “Gang Signs”.
Giving the laidback beat a partner in crime, the new track comes with an animated hybrid clip, combining the world of cartoon animals with the real world. Transforming Gibbs into a gangster rabbit while Q is reincarnated as a turtle with face tattoos.
Freddie says of the song: “I was just trying to pay homage to Do or Die and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony when I made this song. That’s the era I grew up on. It was long overdue for me and Q to do a record.”
That old school vibe comes through the clean bouncing, West Coast sample, while Gibbs and Q take turns rapping about the gangster life, montaging it into a PG animated show.
