Jordan Klassen Shares Poignant New Video For “Golden Ladder”
Singer-songwriter Jordan Klassen released his album Tell Me What To Do in May of 2020. Centering on the endless possibilities life presents and navigating the ‘adult’ world, the album reflects Klassen’s own search for an authentic identity in light of the multitude of different opportunities. The album’s sentimental closing track, “Golden Ladder” brings that sentiment full circle, and now has a music video to come alongside it.
Narrative lyrics and a soft instrumental arrangement bring listeners into Klassen’s self-reflection. Punctuated by electric guitar, heightening the tensions within the story, “Golden Ladder” is one of those songs that effortlessly tugs your heartstrings and makes you think, but also carries a sense of calm.
Adding to the vulnerability of the song, the music video follows the relationship between a mother and her daughter. Using a real family instead of actors, the video shows an authentic familial bond, relatable to their personal experiences that pairs perfectly with the lyrics. The video reflects a story in itself as well, as the family it depicts heals in the face of inter generational trauma and how roles within the family transition over time, the child becoming the caretaker where the mother once was. Klassen shares that “some of these moments are inspired by my own family’s journey with healing, trauma and immigration,” disclosing how his own story can still be seen within the video.
Sentimental in all the right ways, “Golden Ladder’s” story is bound to resonate with listeners across all generations.
