London Rapper Kam-Bu Shares New Single “Black On Black”
South London rapper Kam-Bu is aiming to use his platform as an artist for good with his powerful new single “Black On Black”. Since his debut track “Different” ten months back, Kam has made a strong first impression, continuing the trend with this latest release.
Heavily leaning in the world of grime and drill, the track takes a more soul-focused turn as horns bring the song to a close, as Kam repeats “Black on Black that’s fam… Black on Black that’s plans”. His methodical and steady flow matches the song’s energy and poignance, articulating both the lyrics and the message with swagger and grace.
Speaking on the track, Kam says “This track is an exploration of how the ‘Black on Black’ narrative, which is often perceived as negative, can be flipped on its head to represent black culture in a positive way. Discussing topics such as the teaching of financial literacy, the circulation of wealth and unity within a community. This song was inspired by Fela Kuti and his use of repetition as a sort of sonic marching song on demonstration day, this is what I was aiming for when writing the chorus. Black on Black is a track for empowerment, equality and reflection“.
The accompanying music video, directed by YOUT, portrays the cross-generational Black British community as Kam-Bu runs the show. Stay tuned for more stellar music from the young artist.
