seeyousoon – Matte Black

Florida 9-piece collective seeyousoon put out their ambitious 14-track debut album VIDÉ last year. “Matte Black” is the first taste of new music and showcases the group’s experimental roots and futuristic style.

Cadence Weapon – Eye To Eye

Toronto rapper Cadence Weapon has had a busy year so far, dropping hit after hit. His latest single and video is “Eye To Eye”, a politically-driven track written as a response to the Black Lives Matter headlines from the past year.

His new album Parallel World will be out April 30th.

Sad Night Dynamite – Krunk

UK best friend duo Sad Night Dynamite put out one of the year’s best albums with their self-titled debut last month. From the album is their new music video for “Krunk”, as the slow-burning Gorillaz-meets-Dre track soundtracks a male ego trip.

Lexxicon – Work For It

Toronto-based dancehall act Lexxicon is back with a new single “Work For It”. Mixing his childhood love of grime and early dancehall, his new EP Basement SZN comes packed with dance floor hits including “Work For It”, adding a hint of futuristic EDM to the style.

Jungle – Keep Moving

British production duo Jungle are making their return with a new album Loving In Stereo this August. Their disco-infused sound comes to life once again on “Keep Moving” and its one-take choreographed music video.

LOONY ft. Mick Jenkins – royal flush

Scarborough R&B songstress LOONY is releasing her new EP soft thing on June 24th, and has followed up her crush-chasing single “be cool” with the prequel “royal flush”. The idea of catching feelings and knowing the other person feels the same way is an exciting early stage of a new romance, and LOONY’s velvety vocals takes the listener through the story, alongside rapper Mick Jenkins.

Maths Time Joy x Ritual – Heavy On My Mind

Another repeat FTI artist, Maths Time Joy is back alongside London trio Ritual for the glossy, neo-R&B single “Heavy On My Mind”.

April March – Allons-y

Off the bilingual EP Palladium from April March and Olivia Jean is the ’60s pop inspired “Allons-y” and its new visual. The blue-white-and-red music video features both artists, although April March is at the helm for the French rendition (you can hear Olivia Jean sing the English parallel on “Let’s Go”).

Grady – All In

Inspired by the excitement of a new romance, LA-based alt-pop artist Grady has shared his upbeat and carefree new single “All In”. Throwing away the hesitation of “double texting” and being open and honest with someone, “All In” is a spirited boost of positivity and catchy pop hooks.

SJUR x Lovespeake – Me In The Middle

From the tops of a snowy mountain to the darkly lit gymnastic studio, Norwegian producer SJUR wanted to capture the rush of motivation for his new single and music video “Me In the Middle”. With its enthusiastic chorus drop, the track is catchy and uplifting, not to mention aesthetically pleasing with its visual accompaniment.

Shaun Frank x Ryland James – Save Me

Producer/songwriter Shaunk Frank has teamed up with fellow Toronto-based artist Ryland James for their soulful and booming new single “Save Me”. With the bright energy of a summery EDM track, the love-centered theme accentuates the dance-floor energy of the song.

Braids – 2020

Montreal trio Braids have shared two new songs from their recording session for the 2020 album Shadow Offering, “Slayer Moon” and “2020”. While both capture the lyrical and existential style of Braids, “2020” stands out in particular as a premonition of sorts. Originally written back in 2017, the song is about feeling alone and craving human connection, re-worked to highlight the complexities of 2020 as it blends into another calendar year (not to mention the group have a knack for creating cinematic builds).

WYNNE – Midnight

Following the theme of loneliness in this new world, “Midnight” from Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer WYNNE is a dramatic and lush indie pop song written about coming to terms with solitude despite the need for connection.

Dog Trainer – 35 Days, 34 Nights

NYC based duo Dog Trainer put out their debut album Scrolling to feel better..part one over the weekend. The pair of friends keep things simple with their lo-fi sound, using their experience and melancholic lyrics to cushion the catchy fuzz-pop of their music. Their new single “35 Days, 34 Nights” is a wonderful example, written from diary entries from vocalist Nick Broman while his partner was away in Sweden for a part of the pandemic.

The Maine – Sticky

Pop-rock favourites The Maine have shared the first taste of new music in two years with “Sticky”, off their upcoming eighth studio album  XOXO: From Love And Anxiety In Real Time which arrives July 9. Keeping with their punchy pop melodies and chromatic hooks, “Sticky” is a fun and colourful continuing of their evolution.
