Dizzy Share First Taste Of Collaborative EP ‘Separate Places’; Listen To “The Bird Behind the Drapes”

Following their successful 2020 Juno nominated album The Sun and Her Scorch, Oshawa-bred indie rock outfit Dizzy have announced a new, collaborative project that takes a selection of tracks from the critically acclaimed record and reimagines them, bringing a different artist into the fold on each. The EP, Separate Places, is set for release on June 11th, and Dizzy will reveal the guest vocalists for each track leading up to the release.

The first track shared from the upcoming project features Luna Li. “The Magician” transforms into “The Bird Behind the Drapes,” a languid, dream-like reimagining of the original drawing on Li’s musical style. While the lyrics remain the same, the accompaniment is stripped down, focusing on the piano melody and the melding of frontwoman Katie Munshaw’s and Li’s vocals with flowing strings courtesy of filling out the track. Munshaw describes the track’s new sound as “naive, solemn bliss” in comparison with its original.

The lyrics are a love letter to a close friend of Munshaw who passed away. “The Bird Behind The Drapes” is a more vulnerable delivery of the underlying meaning than its predecessor, and brings with it a completely unique and paradoxical sentiment to the song; still the same but undeniably different.

The collaborative project will take five tracks from The Sun and Her Scorch and offer a fresh perspective, drawing inspiration from each guest artist to complement the existing roots of the song. Stay tuned for upcoming details about the mystery guests to be featured on the Separate Places collaborations.
