Ellis Announces New EP; Shares Lead Single “Hospital”
Ontario based singer-songwriter Ellis (Linnea Siggelkow’s moniker) has shared “Hospital,” previewing her newly announced EP. Set for release in June, “Hospital” is the Canadian singer-songwriter’s first release since her debut album in April of 2020.
Siggelkow took comfort in song writing while navigating the challenges 2020 brought. “I have a lot of difficulty feeling grounded at the best of times, and it had been feeling like the floor was falling out from under me,” shares Siggelkow. “Making these songs was something I felt like I could have control over – they gave me somewhere to stand.”
Staying close to the roots of her debut album, Born Again, Sigglekow took full creative control of the tracks, “Hospital” included. The arrangement of the track is soft and melodic, with warm synths that highlight her voice. The lyrics carry a punch in their illustrative language – “On my hands and knees / spitting my teeth / and blood on the street / and in the hospital / you didn’t come for me.” Honest and tender, “Hospital” feels really sentimental, with a dream-like arrangement complementing the lyrics.
Sigglekow shared that the song reflects on those moments that define you as you work through them. She says that it’s about “those moments when bad or scary things happen that can be so revealing. You really see who shows up for you, who sticks through it all.”
The EP, titled nothing is sacred anymore, will be released on June 25th, and includes three tracks in addition to “Hospital.”
