Said the Whale Channel Wes Anderson for New Music Video “Everything She Touches Is Gold To Me”
Deep into their career, Vancouver indie favourites Said the Whale are expected to release their seventh full-length in the coming year. Their 14 year career has spanned genres, including folk, synth-pop, and hook-filled indie pop, and as they progress into veteran status, the band have been working with acclaimed producer Steve Bays to write music that continues to push their abilities and creativity.
“Steve is an incredibly detail-oriented producer,” says co-vocalist Tyler Bancroft of working with Bays. “We would work until four or five in the morning. Then sleep at his house and work the next day until late into the night. It was exhausting, but each song came to life in such an amazing way with so many layers.”
After sharing their time-travelling cowboy narrative for their first release of 2021 “Honey Lungs“, their second dose of LP7 is the bright-eyed indie pop rock tune “Everything She Touches is Gold To Me”, that combines down to earth hooks with subtle complex song arrangements.
Celebrating Bancroft’s first date with his partner, which was on Sunday, November 15 2009, “Everything She Touches is Gold To Me” is filled with joyous harmonies and a blushing chorus expressing true adoration, rounded out by keyboards, melodic percussion, and full harmonies.
Adding to the song’s playfulness and keeping with their short story format, the band have shared the accompanying music video of four characters in hot pursuit of Big Foot on Isle of Dandy. Channeling their best Wes Anderson, their search for the supernatural being is shot with a tight rule of thirds, quick zooms, and quirky title cards.
