UK Trio Mutes Share Sobriety-Focused Single “Severe Clear”
From Birmingham, UK comes post-punk trio Mutes. Since forming in 2014, the group have gone through a number of lineup changes and sound shifts, but with their third full-length Dreams of Being Cornered set to hit shelves on May 7th, the group had solidified their crew and sound.
Their latest single “Severe Clear” exemplifies their tried and true sound, combining a rush of ’90’s grunge and shoegaze with beefy post-punk revival influences through glossy guitar riffs and distorted, soaring vocals. Written about the clarity and often all-too-real reflection that comes from sobriety, the song’s dissonant chords reflect the splitting dichotomy of addiction and recovery.
