Charles Spearin Shares New Video For Mental Health Week With “Unsolicited Advice”

May 3-9 is Mental Health Week, providing the perfect opportunity and backdrop for singer-songwriter Charles Spearin (Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think) to share his song-a-day writing contribution. Written as a heartfelt letter to his two teenage kids before finally falling on ears outside of his friend group, “Unsolicited Advice” has been given a soothing and meditative arrangement after deciding the track could apply to a more universal audience almost a year later.

Working with animator Jared Sales, the new music video is an animated clip featuring an algorithm-focused robot that lives beneath the surface, sending out random messages of kindness into the world. The robotic and vocaloid spoken word performance helps shape the robot, as the song’s synthesizer backdrop blankets its encouraging words.
