PREMIERE: East Coast Hip-Hop Artist Lonerkid Teams Up With Yung Trench For New Track “Black Roses”

Raised by a musical family, New York-born, New Jersey-based rapper Davine Mayes, professionally known as Lonerkid, found his spark for songwriting at a young age. His father, before getting incarcerated, was a piano player in the church while Loner and his two sisters sang in the choir. When Loner was just three, he got a keyboard as a Christmas gift and his dad began teaching him how to play. Since then, he’s been honing his craft, and has officially made his dive into a career at 21 with a series of singles out this year already.

Continuing his momentum, he has officially released his new single “Black Roses”. Featuring Wisconsin-based rapper Yung Trench, the new single is a genre-blending modern style, combining elements of pop, R&B, trap, soul, and hip-hop to share a story of heartbreak. Emo-tinged vocals and rock-infused hooks push Lonerkid’s hip-hop style forward as he talks about a toxic relationship, adding an extra dimension courtesy of Yung Trench’s verse.

Check out the new track below and get to know Lonerkid in an interview just past:

Q: Who are some of your musical influences?

A: Juice Wrld, Lil Uzi, DC the Don, The Kid Laroi, and Drake

Q: When did you realize you wanted to pursue music full time?

A: After I dropped out my first year in college.

Q: What does “Black Roses” mean to you? What was the inspiration?

A: “Black Roses” means a lot to me because it’s more than just a song. It’s a true story of me being in a rocky relationship that did nothing but tear me down at the end .

Q: How did you connect with Yung Trench?

A: My manager had found a few people through Spotify and started sending me their profiles through Instagram. Somehow, I came across his page and listened to his song called “No Sleep” and just like that I Dm’d him. He told me he was down to work and when I sent the song, he told me that he messed with it heavy and he ended up following me back after.

Q: How has your family inspired you and your music?

A: I have a house full musically inclined people. My sister is a singer, my dad is a pianist, my mom sings and my oldest sister is a big supporter of my music. So Ofc I couldn’t be the only one not doing something music related.

Q: What have you learned about yourself and your music in the last year?

A: All I needed was time and patience. I always was in a rush with everything, whether it was making music, relationships, my future, and being famous.

Q: What’s next for Lonerkid?

A: Next, I’m coming with my brotha HEYDANNX on “BBS Freestyle” that’s dropping the 25th of this month.  Then we’ve got something special titled “Day Dreaming”, which was mixed and mastered by producer Alvin Anthony. Of course music videos! Definitely gotta get those out there.
