Dark Pop Duo Blood Honey Release Debut EP; Share New Single “Don’t Wait Up For Me”
Los Angeles’s alternative dark pop duo Blood Honey have released their self-titled debut EP over the weekend. Since their beginnings as a songwriting duo, the pair have come over obstacles to reach their next milestone as an independent act. Producer/songwriter Kevin dropped out of his PhD program to pursue music, while vocalist Jackie dropped out of school due to an ovarian cancer diagnosis and switched gears following her recovery. Their moody and edgy alternative pop sound drips with electronic textures and industrial hints for a stunning mix of styles, finding its peak on their new single “Don’t Wait Up For Me”.
Elements of Portishead, Nine Inch Nails, and Little Dragon come to mind with its driving bass line and subtle melodies, as Jackie’s echoing vocals hypnotize and energize with a repeating chorus of “I just want to be somebody” over reverb-filled guitar lines.
