Chicago DIY Rocker Jackie Hayes Shares New Single “have fun” From Upcoming EP
With the release of her new EP There’s Always Going To Be Something just a month away, Chicago bedroom indie pop artist Jackie Hayes has shared her latest single “have fun”. Combining her diary-like lyrics with a crisp, cool, and confident lo-fi guitar pop track, “have fun” dives into the back and forth of fighting off anxiety, and the looming stress of figuring out a life purpose.
Jackie explains: “I wrote this song when I was feeling confused about what I wanted to do with my life. My anxiety is very cyclical and it’s often about the same things over and over again. The second verse is a conversation between me and myself. The whole song is me trying to calm my worries, but at the same time being frustrated that I’m not making enough of an effort to change.”
Hayes’ fuzzy guitar leads the way as the conversation turns from anxious to hopeful, maintaining an upbeat and steady shoegaze-tinged aesthetic.
