PREMIERE: Nashville Alt-Pop Artist Jon Worthy Fights Off Loneliness In Colourful New Video For “Soul King (I Don’t Wanna Be Alone)”

After spending 2019 on tour and playing over 120 shows, Nashville-based artist Jon Worthy had to make the pivot to return to his home base for 2020, where he shifted focus to a home studio to self-produce new music. From that collection is his fourth single in the last year, “Soul King (I Don’t Wanna Be Alone)”, and its psychedelic music video to match. While Worthy has spent the last few years of his career situated somewhere between indie rock and Americana, he aspired to create music that instilled positivity from the get-go. “Soul King to me is all about party vibes and a good time”, he shares. “I wanted to explore a different sound with this song and try some new ideas. I love the way pop music today tries to keep the listener constantly engaged with various sounds and ear candy. That’s what I tried to do on Soul King but in my own way and style. I want people to dance and have a good time and feel alive when they hear this song!”

With a warm guitar melody to open the track, “Soul King” eventually explodes into a pool-party of keys, bass, and radio-ready pop hooks as Worthy sings “I don’t wanna be alone” on the upbeat chorus. Despite the song’s inviting qualities, the music video explores the idea of what happens when you’re alone and the images we conjure up in our minds to negate the loneliness. With colorful lights, a flashy baby blue suit, and fresh dance moves, “Soul King” is instant eye candy and a psychedelic representation of the fun upbeat dance song. Shot in Nashville, TN and directed by Garrett Hayes, the music video draws out his spiritual side, as Worthy puts his introspection on display: “This video explores the soul’s inner desire to not want to be alone and the things we conjure up in our mind to feel like we aren’t alone. How crazy can someone act when trying to entertain their loneliness?”

Fortunately Worthy won’t be left alone much longer; he has also announced a series of tour dates this summer and fall across the U.S. including dates at Musikfest 2021, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, San Diego, Jackson, Louisville, and more.

Watch the music video below and stay tuned for more music from Jon Worthy later this year.
