Warp Trio Enlist Vocalist Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez For Cinematic Chamber-Pop Track “The Well”
With a record’s worth of music sitting on a shelf and no tour to show it off, NYC act Warp Trio (who are in fact a quartet) regrouped, as many artists did, and constructed their new album virtually. Aptly titled Pandemic Disco Fantasy, the record spans a number of genres and styles, building into a six track concept album that dives into a handful of serious issues, such as police brutality, racial and class equity, mental health, and media distrust. Set for release on August 20th, the record is foreshadowed by the latest single “The Well”.
Written during the lockdown, “The Well” is an exploration of isolation and the self-inflicting wounds brought on by introspection and facing one’s demons. The dramatic and orchestral arrangement helps to build the narrative and propel it forward, as guest vocalist Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez loans her striking and acrobatic voice for a captivating performance.
The accompanying music video combines a live performance with a choreographed interpretive dance, giving off a theatrical demeanour – something similar to witnessing the track live on stage.
