Bedroom Indie Artist dba James Shares Charming New ‘Heaven Is Forever’ EP
From the quiet town of Randolph, Massachusetts comes indie artist dba James, an emerging indie artist writing songs from his bedroom – or barn for that matter. For a year, James would retreat to a small desk in his family’s barn and write about his experiences from the past two years and created dreamy, lo-fi pop tunes. Embracing the cliche, his lyrics and music falls into a playful mix of maximalist production and diary-like narratives, bringing out some of the pop rock era of the ’00s to build subtle, home video cinematic tunes.
On his new EP Heaven Is Forever, James explores the cyclic behaviour of the world, ironically blending together contemporary emo-pop crunch with millennium-era pop rock vocals. “Heaven is Forever is about lessons I’ve learned in originality”, he shares. “We’re all doomed to repeat ourselves, but what’s repeated is up to us“.
Opening with the sharp-edged guitar-pop tune “Trad Future”, James combines the philosphy of “now” with punchy, syncopated percussion, before blending into the cool and crisp, insecurity-fighting track “Penny”. Ending on a high note, the EP’s title track brings his layered production style and guitar-pop style to a peak, melting together warm hooks, his laid-back croon, and dense instrumentation as he sings about accepting that the good in life with always find a way to shine.
