Toronto’s Dave Monks Teams Up With Shad For Captivating New Single “Don’t Get Pushed Around”
Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks is set to released his sophomore solo album I’ve Always Wanted To Be Me on October 15th via his newly launched Ghost Pepper Records. Now onto his fifth single from the release, Monks is showcasing his diversity as a songwriter on “Don’t Get Pushed Around”, which features fellow Toronto-based rapper Shad.
When discussing his collaboration with Shad, Monks shares, “Shad happened to be mixing his record next door to where I was recording. We asked him to come check out a track for a feature, and it just clicked. His string of heartfelt words really makes my one-liner, ‘Don’t Get Pushed Around’, and is the kind of casual collaboration you hear about but never think will ever happen to you“.
Stepping into a punchy driving riff on his new track, Monks brings together anthem alt-rock with a 70s soul spirit to create a charged and motivating release. Putting the repeating line of “don’t get pushed around” to work, Shad comes in for a clear and concise feature that brings out another dimension to the genre-bending track.
