Brooklyn-based Singer-Songwriter Richard Orofino Finds His Confidence On New Single “Wanna Say”
Now onto his third single of 2021, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Richard Orofino continues to seal in the nostalgia of ’90s alt-pop as he balances between confident and insecure on his latest effort “Wanna Say”. Opening with a charming acoustic guitar riff, Orofino’s bedroom-pop aesthetic comes to a peak as he brings in warm vocal harmonies and minimalist percussion to keep things laissez-faire and organic – an achievement brought out my recording in his apartment with vintage keyboards, iPhone guitar recordings, and voice memos of birds singing.
Like many creatives, a decorated portfolio is never enough to warrant a high level of confidence, and on his new single Orofino opens up to the side of himself that is not always as supportive. “Wanna Say is about finally feeling confident enough in myself and my thoughts to be able to share those feelings with the judgmental part of me”, he explains. “Even if that part of me doesn’t want to hear or acknowledge those true feelings, I can stand up for what I know I truly desire and feel is right for me. The idea that it’s possible to have this internal dialogue while standing confidently in my beliefs. Confident enough to over come that shamefulness and self doubt is the true message.”
The see-saw of emotions bring out the moody and melancholic qualities of the track, while the instrumentation remains hopeful and welcoming throughout.
