Russian-American Producer Alina Smith Tackles Ageism In The Music Industry On Debut EP; Shares Latest Single “Day One”
Russian-American producer and artist Alina Smith overcame a number of obstacles before releasing her debut EP 2000’s Teen at 34. “I wanted to be an artist when I first immigrated from Russia to the States,” Alina shares, “but it took me years to master the English language enough to fluently write in it, by which point I was told by several music executives that I was ‘too old’. They told me I should focus on producing and writing, which I did. But the desire to speak my truth through my own music never went away. So here I am, releasing my first EP at 34. It’s crazy that it feels like such a crazy thing, but ageism is very real in our industry.”
Despite the delay on her solo material, Smith is best known as one half of internationally acclaimed female writing/production duo LYRE, hitting the charts a number of times. To no surprise, her debut solo material is pop-chart worthy in its own right, including her latest single “Day One”. A striking piano melody and Smith’s vibrant vocals take the lead as she sings about sticking to her guns and staying true to her supporters and herself.
