Dream-Pop Act Yndling Let A Relationship Fizzle Out On New Single “Out Of My Way”

With their debut EP set for release in the coming months, Norwegian dream-pop act Yndling have shared their latest single “Out Of My Way”. The project of artist Silje Espevik, Yndling combine lush soundscapes and twinkling synthesizers for a starry-eyed combination of escapism and introspection. On “Out Of My Way”, Espevik’s warm vocals float over the pop-forward hooks and synthesizers, despite its more apathetic inspiration.

“It’s about that stage in a relationship where you are half in, half out, and can’t really find a way to make things work or to let go properly”, she explains. “In a situation like that, it’s my experience that one part will get over things first, and kind of leave the other part behind. Meeting up again, and realising that the other person has a totally different view of the situation and is totally over it, is super hard. The title and hook of the song comes from that feeling – the feeling of having gone «out of your way» to please someone and make things work, thinking you did it together, and realising that they never put in the same effort and didn’t care as much as you did when it came down to it. That sort of thing is a real mindfuck to me, how two humans may perceive a situation so differently. It can make me feel so inferior and out of place.”

Yndling’s music is both honest and raw, wrapped in layers of sound and harmonies. A project born during Covid, with hushed vocals and a melancholic feel, Yndling offer introspection and honesty in her songwriting.

She adds, “I think there is so much power in letting a feeling or experience be all-consuming, just for a little while, and I really need that to write music.” Yndling has an understanding that when writing, it is important to “throw away the fear of being too honest or maybe telling a truth that’s not recognised by everyone else and that may feel a little too close for comfort.”
