San Diego Singer-Songwriter Colin Jones Shares New Music Video For Retro Ballad “Moonlight”
On his new single “Moonlight”, San Diego-based singer-songwriter Colin Jones was inspired by the swooning qualities of ’50s / ’60s love ballads. With a rich nostalgia and vintage slow-burning aesthetic, Jones matches the energy for the song’s new accompanying visual. Glossy lighting from the serenity of a California mountain top pool highlight Jones’ brooding croon, combining his appreciation for Roy Orbison, and throwback coming of age films. “Moonlight” draws a lot from those old 50/60’s love ballads,” explains Jones. “It’s the penultimate dance at prom. It’s a sort of Roy Orbison-inspired love song.”
Like the tracks preceding it, “Moonlight” comes off Jones’s upcoming full-length record, which draws from Jones’s lived experiences as an Australian ex-pat. “I wanted the album a project exploring the experience of an outsider in Southern California,” says Jones. “Ever since moving here, I have been obsessed with the physical space and the feelings that elicits. With “Moonlight” and the rest of the record, I wanted to express that idea both musically and visually.”
