Songwriter/Animator Grimson Shares Impressive New Animated Clip For “Chimney Sweeper”
“‘Chimney Sweeper is, by far, the most painfully ambitious project I’ve conceived of and executed”.
For his new single and music video “Chimney Sweeper”, NYC/Berlin-based singer-songwriter and animator Grimson laboured over more than 1100 individual hand drawings – which were then shot frame by frame into a 16mm Bolex film camera, chemically processed on black and white film stock, digitized, and finalized in post-production.
“It was an exercise in the marriage of film and music, attempting to be more than a standard music video, but not quite a short film”, he explains. “The song itself was written and performed in high school, then finally recorded in Berlin in 2021“.
Influenced by ’60s pop, David Bowie, and the visual stylings of Michel Gondry, the new single is a vintage wonderland, as the experimental pop stylings of The Beatles collide with later-decades singer-songwriter for a catchy and retro listening experience.
