Rare Americans Visit the Afterlife In Animated Clip For “Brittle Bones Nicky 2”

Vancouver collective Rare Americans conclude their underdog story with “Brittle Bones Nicky 2”

Vancouver-based collective Rare Americans throw genre and caution to the wind with their energizing blend of music and animation. Through exhilarating storytelling within their own universe of Crooked City, the band are carving their own path of alternative music, backed by a loyal fanbase around the world, and on their new single “Brittle Bones Nicky 2”, the two collide.

In a party mix of alternative, hip-hop, punk, and ska, Rare Americans continue their tale of Brittle Bones Nicky, a boy who grew up in the foster system and could never catch a break. The audiovisual story takes a darker turn as Nicky meets his maker, frontman James Priestner explains: “He figures he’s a shoo in for heaven, but little does he know, getting in isn’t so simple..It’s an experimental song, not following popular song structure. It’s designed more like a short film with the accompanied video.”

Serving as bookends on their upcoming sophomore album Rare Americans 2, the group’s love for cinema and storytelling add a compelling and adrenaline-pumping edge to their horn-filled punk sound. Their message: think for yourself, be yourself, do it yourself.

Priestner continues, “A lot of Rare Americans fans are extremely talented artists from many different disciplines, but when I talk to them I can feel their lack of self belief. That can cause a host of mental anguish, and it’s largely what a lot of Rare Americans 2 is inspired by. It’s been a core part of Rare Americans to empower our listeners to believe in themselves, embrace their weirdness, and understand that you can control your own destiny. But it’s equally important to communicate the amount of effort it takes to get where you want to go. It’s our goal with the new album that people feel a sense of community and support in dealing with their issues, because we’re all fighting similar battles.”

The music video was animated by Solis Animation in Toronto, and you can find Rare Americans 2 out on March 5th.
