Indie Pop Duo Hoax Share New Single “goldeneyes” From Upcoming Debut Album
Queens-based indie pop band HOAX have shared their new single “goldeneyes”, the eighth piece from their upcoming narrative-driven concept album b?. Helping to build to their end-of-the-world story, “goldeneyes” is named after the fictional drug that was created in which you drop a chemical onto your eye and experience hallucinogenic effects where you are only selectively seeing the fantastical visions that your mind wants to see. The effects are very real and highly addictive, and is known for its serious and intense comedown, as immense depression immediately follows the momentary euphoric bliss.
With that in mind, the song explores the needs and desires of humans, and the search for something better. “While the vibe of ‘goldeneyes’ emits ‘feel-good’ vibes , the point is not to preach a million-dollar pyramid scheme of happiness through realization, but rather hope that through listening to this song, it will maybe unlock some euphoric moment of freedom where you just truly are happy, or at the least, identify what it is that truly allows you to be. And if that doesn’t work, there are always drugs“, shares co-member Michael Raj.
Hazy lo-fi pop instrumentation and dreamy vocals open the first half of the track before slipping into a more synth-wave second half with hints of DIY and post-punk scattered into the dynamic conclusion.
