Dutch Indie Folk Artist La Loye Shares Her Feelings On Summer With New Single “White Summer”
24-year-old Dutch artist Lieke Heusinkveld has shared her latest single as La Loye, her chosen moniker for the moody, alt-folk songwriting from her bedroom. After releasing her debut single in 2019 to positive reviews, Heusinkveld has gone on to release a handful of tracks, including her latest offering “White Summer”.
With her angelic vocals at the forefront and patient lyricism propelling the song forward, the singer-songwriter shares her uncommon experience with summer: “I’ve never really felt comfortable in summer. I can often feel very gloomy and melancholic during this particular time of the year and it always seems to create a distance between me and the rest of the world. As if everything is covered in a layer of thick white mist, making it difficult to connect with anything or anyone besides myself. On ‘white summer’ I’m sort of torn between trying to reconnect and accepting that this feeling might be a part of who I am.”
Her feeling of melancholy come through as her gentle voice is accompanied by a steady piano and guitar arrangement, before transforming into a bold finish, influenced by the likes of Elliott Smith, Mount Eerie, Radiohead and Big Thief.
