Genre-Bending Act De Staat Share New Single “Look At Me”
For the last twelve years, Dutch alternative act De Staat have been making a point of crafting music that does not stand in one place. Rock, industrial, electronic, and more jam into their discography, and on their latest single “Look At Me”, the trend continues. In lieu of releasing a full-length, De Staat are sharing a collection of new songs month by month. The auditory art project features eighteen tracks that reflect the primary colours of red, yellow, and blue. Red: fuelled by rock and roll aggression; yellow: funk, dancing, and primal joy; blue: big-scale melodic rock songs.
“Look At Me” finds its place in the red category, with searing rock n’ roll edges draw out by laser synthesizers and visceral vocals. Incorporating elements of underground hardcore and electronica, “Look At Me” is a bass-pumping hit that brings out elements of Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, and Gorillaz.
