Halifax Oddball-Emo Outfit No, It’s Fine. Share New Single “Goldie” From Latest Full-Length ‘I Promise.’
Halifax indie emo rock quartet No, It’s Fine. released their latest album I Promise. on November 12th. Built around frantic melodies and jittery vocals, the record finds a standout moment on the band’s latest single “Goldie”. Serving as the closing track of the record, the song is a stream of consciousness that brings forth ’90s emo and grunge instrumentation and oddball lyricism.
“This is a most earnest attempt at trying to share my inner monologue,” said the band’s Cailen Pygott (he/him). “The riff was born out of a session of binging the Forth Wanderers’ Slop EP and trying to capture the emotional tone of the guitar part to ‘Unfold.’ Both it and ‘Goldie’ are the final pieces on their respective albums.” With rant-like qualities, the song digs deeper and deeper into anxiety and self-doubt in a diary-entry flow, rounded out by gritty guitar riffs and rhythms.
“‘Goldie’ was largely written by stream of consciousness,” Pygott said. “I think that’s why the lyrics so effectively capture my cycle of feeling crappy, procrastinating doing anything about that feeling, rationalizing it, and then feeling crappy some more. Named after [bandmate] kt’s golden SG that I wrote it on, the song’s title is also a wrestling reference. But that’s less important.”
