Toronto’s Deanna Petcoff Holds On To Love With Latest Single “I Don’t Wanna Get Over You”

Now settled into her position as a member of the Royal Mountain Records roster, Toronto’s Deanna Petcoff is back with her latest single “I Don’t Wanna Get Over You” – another piece from her upcoming project set to be announced in early 2022.

Leaning into her strengths as a candid songwriter, “I Don’t Wanna Get Over You” is an honest and heartbreaking song about running into an ex despite being in the big city, lead by Deanna’s melancholic but charming vocals. About the single, she shares: “I wrote this song with my good friend Jacob Switzer over zoom somewhere during the second lockdown (in Toronto). We wanted to write something to stay connected to each other during a time of extreme loneliness and isolation, so we decided to take this small idea I had and turn it into this sad, Strokes-y tune. We’d both been listening to a lot of The Magnetic Fields, and really valued how honest and brutal their writing can be. We wanted to say something that hurt a little bit, was a little bit embarrassing, and ultimately the most honest we could be.

Borrowing the lyrical tactics of Taylor Swift and Jensen McRae, paralleled by her Tokyo Police Club-esque indie rock, “I Don’t Wanna Get Over You” is an easy-to-love track.
