R&B Newcomer Areej Shares Latest Single “Bloodshed”
Ahead of her upcoming debut EP Guided By Our Fears, British R&B singer-songwriter Areej has shared her second single “Bloodshed”. A cool, calming blend of soul, jazz, and R&B, the new track is a luscious and sultry effort.
Influenced by the likes of Nina Simone, Etta James, Erykah Badu, and an upbringing of classical Arabic music, her silky vocal style and moody sax-driven songwriting brings out an emotive and rich soulfulness. “Blood don’t shed from the leaves / it just sheds from the feeling”, she shares, “there are more aching hearts than made visible to the naked eye. We often walk through life with a mask on because being our most honest and vulnerable self can be quite frightening, hence why we should always remember to treat people with love and kindness“
Mirroring the song’s retro inspiration, the accompanying black and white music video dips its toes into the ’50s and ’60s with its moody settings.
