UK Post Punk Outfit Youth Sector Call Out Patriotism On Lively New Single “Is Blood”
Off their forthcoming EP Adult Contemporary, out February 18th, UK indie rock outfit Youth Sector have shared their new single “Is Blood”. Continuing their art-rock-meets-post-punk style, the British five-piece give a nod to the early ’00s Brit-rock icons such as Bloc Party, The Kooks, and Two Door Cinema Club with their feverish dance-punk energy on the anti-nationalism anthem.
Lead by melodic guitar lines and an energetic rhythm section, “Is Blood” contrasts its upbeat musicality with political and jabs. About the song, guitarist/vocalist Nick Tompkins shares:
“This one comes from a growing distaste and bewilderment for people in England who are so proud to be English. The song is an attempt to weigh up ‘patriotism’ with the fact that this country, our wealth and our position in the world was built on the suffering of others – we are not deserving of it and it shouldn’t be a source of pride and entitlement. It was written while the BLM riots were in full swing where ‘all lives matter’ started cropping up not just from anonymous internet trolls but people I knew also which was sickening and disorientating.”
