Toronto Punk Act PUP Start To Come Undone With New Single “Robot Writes A Love Song”; Announce Fourth LP ‘The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND’

Toronto punk favourites PUP spent the summer of 2021 working on their fourth album, The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND with Grammy Award-winning producer Peter Katis from within his bat-filled mansion in Connecticut. The band more or less never left. When they got comfortable in their strange new home, the (figurative) walls came down. “As the weeks passed, we seemed less and less rational, objective, and sane,” says vocalist-guitarist Stefan Babcock. “You can hear the band start to fall off the cliff, and because of that, I think this record is our truest and most genuine to date. There is nothing more PUP than a slow and inevitable descent into self-destruction.”

Sitting comfortably within their sound after all these years, and with more freedom for the recording process, the upcoming album delivers the traditional nihilistic PUP music from within a slightly more refined capsule. Set to release on April 1st, the album’s announcement is in conjunction with its second single “Robot Writes A Love Song”, showcasing the band’s subtle shift in style and execution.

Following the band’s previous single “Waiting“, the new single “Robot Writes A Love Song” turns down the aggression for a more melodic and pop-forward effort. Written in 15 minutes and with vocals recorded in the backseat of Stefan’s car, it follows a narrative of a computer that succumbs to the emotional weight of human emotions. Its odd story-telling and colourful musicality comes to life in the accompanying Whitey McConnaughy-directed music video.

Leading up to the album’s release, PUP will be heading out on tour for the next few months (dates below).
