Indie Folk Artist Spencer Hoffman Returns To His Roots For Latest Single “Lie” Off Forthcoming Debut EP
Having gigged around the Pacific Coast as a musician since he was 16, Spencer Hoffman has officially embarked on a solo career under his own name. With his debut EP A Flower From Behind on the way, the indie folk singer-songwriter has shared its sophomore single “Lie”.
Drawing inspiration from American folk country songwriters such as Roger Miller and Guy Clark, “Lie” is the first song Hoffman wrote that embraces his country roots. “It brings me back to the trailer park and motel where I spent a lot of time growing up,” he shares. “My grandpa would drive me around in his red Toyota pickup on his way to repair something at the pool-hall or the country store, and sing Roger Miller and Willie Nelson tunes while drumming his fingers on his leather steering wheel cover. It’s the first song I wrote that embraced my country roots like that, and came out of a set of circumstances that were making me weary of certain people I had left behind in my hometown.”
The nostalgic and homegrown reflection comes through on the jangling pop effort; Hoffman’s voice moves between dreamy bedroom folk and mountaineer storyteller effortlessly, making for a universally appealing Americana release.
