Electro Funk Ensemble Displace Share Chaotic New Single “Possums”
Florida electro-funk collective Displace have had a few different line-ups over the years, since forming back in 2012 as an improvisational act. Now, the Tampa Bay-based ensemble consists of saxophone, electronic violin, and six keyboards.
Their latest offering is the quirky and jazzy warning call “Possums”. Bold vocals and frantic melodies overtop layers of instrumentation take the listener on a sonic journey.
About the song, the band shares:
“One night while coming home walking up to my door, I heard a rustling in the bushes next to me. Shined my light into the hopeless dark and saw a pissed off possum just snarling at me. I didn’t get offended or upset, because it was just a possum. Walked inside, sat down on social media to open up a very unnecessarily hateful comment – and found myself having a similar reaction to that entity’s angst.
Some possums walk on two legs and have social media accounts, but their deconstructive criticisms and vile perspectives need not be considered relevant to your awesomeness. Don’t hate your haters; just categorize their condescension appropriately, listen to a few trusted loving sources to keep you in check, and focus on being dope“.
Its chaotic style aims to mirror the wild west of the online world, while adding an optimistic energy.
