London’s Home Counties Share Hot Fuzz-Inspired Music Video For “Village Spirit”
London based five-piece Home Counties recently released their second EP, In A Middle English Town, self-produced by guitarist and vocalist Conor Kearney. Their recent single ‘Village Spirit,’ is lifted from the collection, seeing the UK post-punk band merge interplaying guitars and bubbling electronics. They’ve also shared a music video alongside the track’s release, keeping things light in line with the playfulness of the track.
Melodic and catchy, the ‘Village Spirit’ music video brings the English countryside of Haddenham front and centre, the landscapes flashing across the screen alongside the group’s easy vocals and harmonies. Speaking on the new video, they shared that “the video is a loose and modern portrayal of the historic event the song is written about (the communal murder of a nobleman in nineteenth-century France).” Don’t let the more serious undertone of the song fool you though – Home Counties kept the melodies bright, and the accompanying music video brings an added playfulness to the track. “We wanted it to be a bit Hot Fuzz, with the comically over-stereotyped village characters played by the band members. The video was shot in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, which is a very quaint best kept village sort of place – which gives the video a postcard portrayal of idyllic village life. We had a lot of fun making this video and are chuffed with how it turned out – thanks to the amazing work of Taylor and Harry. It was a pleasure working with these guys.”
Video director Taylor Torr added: “It’s amazing what you can do with a couple of milk bottles, a tractor and some fake blood.”
