Alexisonfire Return With New Video; Announce Upcoming Album & Tour Dates

The wait for Alexisonfire fans is officially over. After their farewell tour began in December 2012, the band announced their return in 2015, stating that they had no concrete plans for releases or touring. After a number of live shows and the release of  three singles between 2019 and 2020, the Canadian post-hardcore band have officially shared news of their first full-length album release in 13 years. Otherness is set to release June 24th – with the first single, “Sweet Dreams of Otherness” shared along with the Jay Barychel-directed music video.

An explosive, guitar heavy track, it stays true to the band’s already established sound and style, adding to their impressive catalogue. Says George Pettit, “This song was largely Dallas [Green’s] brain child but over the course of writing this record it became more of a mission statement for the band. It’s kind of about performance and embracing a new found confidence in a state of peculiarity.”

The familiarity of the sound can be attributed to the band having already discovered the perfect mix of their individual talents. Dallas Green’s engaging croon; the urgent attitude of Wade MacNeil; the heavy bellow of George Pettit -vocals all anchored by a mix of vulnerability and confidence. As every Alexisonfire song persistently grows, builds and folds back into itself,, bassist Chris Steele and drummer Jordan Hastings become the glue within the track, marrying persistent sound to the various vocal stylings delivering the lyrics. The music video for the single was shared later in the day, the energy of the video matching the song it visualizes and emphasizing the band themselves, playing through the song against stage lighting, a full band experience.

The album will feature 10 new tracks, including ‘Sweet Dreams Of Otherness,’ and was produced by Alexisonfire in the span of roughly a week. In making the record, MacNeil shared that “the biggest difference is the space we are all in. We were all really thrilled to make a record, and it was such a respite from what was going on in the world. It felt like life could be beautiful. We were supportive of one another. Everyone was in such a good mood. It was such a treat to be able to do it again.”

As much as we love playing the old songs, we don’t want to be a nostalgia act. The only reason to come back is if we feel we still have something to say,” Pettit says.

Curious what that ‘something’ is? Listen to ‘Sweet Dreams of Otherness’ now, and stay tuned for the release of Otherness later this year.
