Deanna Petcoff Shares Latest Video “If You Were Me” From Upcoming Album ‘To Hell With You, I Love You’
Ahead of her debut album set to release in a matter of weeks, Deanna Petcoff has shared another single, ‘If You Were Me.’ Taken from the upcoming album, To Hell With You, I Love You, the latest single is a confessional indie rock ballad, shared alongside an accompanying music video.
Based in Toronto, Petcoff shares that the latest single is the oldest track on the album. “I started writing this in high school about my partner at the time who was emotionally abusive,” she shares. “I wasn’t able to finish the song once I started it because I didn’t feel safe saying all of these things when I knew he would hear them. My good friend and collaborator Callum Maudsley helped me navigate those waters and come to a message that was clear and relatable to lots of other people; if I were you I would treat me better.”
Her rich vocals deliver lyrics of yearning and reflection, with the story coming to life in the music video as viewers are transported back to the world of high school dances. Vulnerable and heartfelt, Petcoff invites listeners into the turbulent relationship the track describes, as she dances through the motions of the relationship. Soft at first, and building into a gritty guitar solo at the bridge, the silkiness of her voice layers effortlessly over the crashing instruments, only to stand on its own at the close.
On To Hell With You, I Love You, Petcoff shares she wanted to present “the whirlwind of emotions you have when you’re grieving a relationship, which can feel like the death of a part of you or what you thought your life was going to look like.” ‘If You Were Me’ highlights that sentiment, a heartfelt preview into the debut album to be released on April 8th via Royal Mountain Records. Deanna Petcoff also has a number of upcoming North American dates over the next number of months.
